Cathy Horvath
Cathy runs finance and trust accounting at Empire Legal from the Gold Coast office, and her path here was anything but a straight line. She started out at university studying teaching, decided fairly quickly that the study side wasn’t for her, and landed her first full-time role at a Melbourne law firm specialising in tax law that also handled conveyancing, where she learned the trade from the ground up, from title searches at the titles office to sitting across the table at paper settlements.
From there she spent years in senior roles in the car rental industry before moving into car sales and then car finance, a background that, unusual as it sounds, built exactly the head for numbers she now brings to trust accounting. She joined Empire Legal four and a half years ago and has been part of the furniture ever since.
Around the office she’s known as “the office mum,” the one who looks after the team as much as she looks after the books (especially when she’s spoiling everyone with sweet treats baked at home). Outside work, Cathy is a board member of Burleigh in Pink and is passionate about raising funds for breast cancer research, and she’s happiest catching up with family and friends.
