This website is operated by Empire Legal Pty Ltd (ABN 99 622 383 582, ACN 622 383 582), an incorporated legal practice in Queensland (“Empire Legal”, “we”, “us”, “our”). These terms apply when you use empirelegal.com.au, including our articles, videos, podcast pages, calculators and enquiry forms. By using the website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
These terms cover your use of the website only. If you engage us, our costs agreement and client engagement terms govern the legal work we do for you.
2. General information, not legal advice
Everything on this website is general information about Queensland law. It is not legal advice and you should not rely on it for your own situation. Our disclaimer explains this in more detail and forms part of these terms.
3. When we become your lawyers
Using this website, subscribing to our updates, or sending us an enquiry by form, email, phone or social media does not make us your lawyers. We only act for you once we have:
- completed our conflict checks;
- verified your identity where the law requires it; and
- given you a costs agreement or engagement terms, and you have accepted them.
Until then, please do not send us confidential or time-sensitive information about your matter through the website. We cannot act on it, and we cannot guarantee that information sent before we are engaged will be treated as confidential. If you have a deadline, such as a contract condition or a settlement date, phone us on 07 3088 7675.
4. Fees and calculators
Fees shown on this website, including our standard fees, cover the scope of work described on the relevant page. Government fees, search fees and other disbursements are extra. Calculator results are estimates only. Your fees are confirmed only in the costs agreement we give you under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Qld).
5. Protect yourself from payment scams
Criminals target property settlements by sending fake emails that appear to come from lawyers, agents and banks. We will never change our bank details by email or text message. Before you transfer any money to us, phone us on 07 3088 7675 to confirm our bank details. If an email about payment looks unusual, do not act on it. Call us.
6. Using this website
You must not:
- use the website for any unlawful purpose;
- try to gain unauthorised access to the website, its servers or any connected system;
- upload or send viruses, malicious code or spam through our forms; or
- interfere with the website’s operation, or impersonate any person when contacting us.
We may block access to the website for anyone who breaches these terms.
7. Intellectual property
Unless we say otherwise, we own or license all content on this website, including text, articles, videos, podcast episodes, graphics, logos, calculators and page design. You may view, download and print content for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may quote or share short extracts if you credit Empire Legal and link back to the original page. You must not republish, sell or otherwise commercially use our content without our written permission.
8. Third-party websites and content
The website links to, and displays content from, third parties, including government websites, YouTube, Google Maps and review platforms. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.
9. Availability
We aim to keep the website available and accurate, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or free from viruses. We may change, suspend or remove any part of the website at any time.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded.
Subject to that, and to the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the website, or from relying on information on it without getting advice on your own circumstances.

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland and the courts that can hear appeals from them.

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated. Changes apply from that date.
